‘Stop Using Mobile Phones At Night’ – Experts Warn

The expert was speaking on the sidelines of this year’s World Glaucoma Week (WGW) commemorated from March 12 to March 18, with the theme: “Beat Invisible Glaucoma”.

Charles said those who spent long periods of time on these devices and also computers should ensure they took breaks away from the devices and gadgets in order to protect the eyes from damage caused by excessive exposure to light.

“Working long hours on the computer can affect the eyes and vision. This can trigger a negative reaction to the eyes and cause headache, loss of concentration and ultimately predisposes one to develop Computer Visual Syndrome.

“If this continues on a long-term basis, it can lead to permanent damage to the eyes.

“Therefore, one should make efforts to wear protective eye glasses or use a computer screen so that the level of direct light to the eyes is reduced.

“When you work on the computer screen for long periods you should try to take a break from your work once in a while.

“From 20 seconds to about 20 minutes try to look at least 20 feet away and that way you break the continuous exposure of the light to your eyes which can result in damage to the element of vision.”

He also cautioned the public, especially those predisposed to or at risk of developing eye diseases against excessive consumption of alcohol.

Charles said consuming alcohol in excess quantity could affect the nerves of the eyes increasing the chances of damage to one’s vision.

The expert, who described alcohol as a depressant, said the substance once consumed overtime gave a feeling of euphoria and subsequently affected one’s thinking and coordination.

Charles said alcohol could only give such feeling to an individual because it worked through the nerves, adding that any substance that worked using the nerves could affect vision.

“For someone who already has a biological predisposition to glaucoma, taking alcohol or any other substance that can affect your nerves, thereby accelerating damage to the nerve of vision.

“Another thing to consider is the quantity of alcohol consumed by an individual and the level of concentration of this alcohol.

“Drug and substance abuse also have negative effects on the eyes; activities such as direct gaze at the sun can expose one to ultra-violent radiation.

“When moving outdoors, you should wear protective eye shade or a face cap to protect your eyes from this radiation because it can cause external growth within the eyes and can serve as a trigger for vision impairment.”

He listed other activities that could directly affect the eyes to include welding, adding that the iron particles caused direct trauma to the eyes.

Shortly after the “Come and Get It” singer revealed on Instagram that she had received a kidney transplant, friend Lady Gaga decided to express her support on social media.

“Prayers & love to @selenagomez you are a warrior princess,” she wrote on Twitter Friday evening. “What an inspiration.”

That sentiment echoes many Selenators who were surprised to learn the singer had been out of the spotlight for much of the summer because of health struggles.

“I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you,” Selena shared with her followers. “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed.”

As Selena continues her own recovery, Lady Gaga is overcoming health struggles as well.

Earlier this week, the “Born This Way” singer announced on Twitter that she had to cancel her Rock in Rio performance under doctor’s orders.

“I was taken to the hospital its not simply hip pain or wear & tear from tour, I’m in severe pain,” she wrote on Twitter. “I’m in good hands w/ the very best doctors.”

By speaking out, Selena and Lady Gaga have already helped others. E! News has learned that donations to have “soared.”

In fact, the group’s president confirmed that her appeals have raised almost $500,000 for research funded by the Lupus Research Alliance.

It was reported earlier last week that the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reality star and her rapper husband were due to have baby number three in January via a surrogate.

Kim has previously revealed she can’t carry another child after suffering placenta accreta, a potentially life-threatening condition in which the placenta grows into the muscle of the uterus, while she was expecting daughter North, four, and son Saint, 20 months, and that she is keen to expand their family at some point in the future.

“I’ve definitely seen a lot of things, we’ve never confirmed anything,” she said vaguely about the rumours.

“So, I think when we’re ready to talk about it we will,” she added.

“I think it’s super invasive when people are just…So many details out there, and like I’ve never heard this, I’ve never heard this. Like whatever.”

“We have not confirmed it, and that’s that. I’ll let you know when,” she said, hinting that the pregnancy is still in its early stages and it’s too early to talk about.

The unnamed woman who is reportedly carrying their child has been described as an experienced surrogate and according to an insider familiar with the pregnancy has revealed the news that the couple are expecting a baby girl.

Kim’s mum Kris Jenner and her sister Khloé both reportedly offered to suffer as a surrogate when Kim expressed she wanted more children.

Serena Williams and her fiance, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, have revealed the first photos and the name of their newborn baby daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr.

The 35-year old tennis legend posted a photo of Alexis Jr. on her official instagram account and shared a link to a Youtube video uploaded by her fiance, which gives even more details into the birth of their baby girl. According to the video, Serena says there were “a lot of complications” at the hospital that required them to stay there for 6 or 7 days.

“So we’re leaving the hospital after six, seven days,” Serena says in a clip debuting her daughter.

“It’s been a long time, but we had a lot of complications, but look who we got — we got a baby girl!”

Serena says their baby girl weighed 6 lbs 14 ounces when she was born on September 1st at St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Florida. And she has already credited Alexis Jr. with winning a Grand Slam title, since Serena was pregnant when she won the Australian Open back in January.


During a late-night talk show appearance last month, Alexis Ohanion said,

“[Serena] won the Australian Open while pregnant. And she remarked that she feels like it has to be a girl because everything that that baby went through and handled like a champ, only a woman could be strong enough to take on.”

Humans can live for weeks and sometimes months without food. Going without water, however, is a different story…

Two-thirds of the human body (by weight) consists of water. Humans need water for circulation, respiration, and converting food to energy. After oxygen, water is the body’s most important nutrient. Quite simply, you need water to live.

Your body loses water constantly through sweat, urine, and even breathing. You must replace the water your body loses for your organs to continue to work properly. Dehydration occurs when your body doesn’t have enough water, because you’re losing more water than you’re taking in.

In extreme heat, an adult can lose almost 1.5 litres of water through sweat alone. Without water, dehydration can set in within an hour in severe heat. The combination of physical overexertion and extreme heat, without water, can lead to death in as little as several hours.

Surprisingly, it’s also easy to become dehydrated in very cold environments. Since cold air cannot hold much moisture, it dehydrates your body with every breath you take. Even if you aren’t sweating, you still need to replenish fluids even in cold weather.

So how long can you survive without water? Humans in average shape and perfect conditions (not too hot or cold) can probably live for three to five days without any water if they’re not physically exerting themselves. Healthier people can live a day or so longer, while those who are unhealthy or exposed to particularly hot or cold weather may not survive as long.

To stay healthy, you need to continually replenish your fluid supply. Experts recommend drinking approximately eight glasses of water each day. Of course, if you live in an extremely hot or cold area, or if you exercise a lot, you may need to drink 3 litres or more of water every day.

If you love animals, you may already know that camels are famous for being able to go long periods of time, in the desert heat, without drinking. Camels in the Sahara Desert have been known to survive six months or more without drinking during the winter. In the extreme heat of a desert summer, they can still go five to ten days without drinking.

So how do they do it? Some people believe it’s because they store water in the humps on their back, but that’s not true. Their humps are filled with fat, which allows them to go a long time without food.

Camels can go a long time without drinking because their internal body temperature can vary much more than a human’s, which allows them to withstand high temperatures without needing to sweat to cool their bodies. Camels also have specially-shaped elliptical blood cells, which promote blood flow and don’t allow blood volume to drop when fluid levels drop. These factors allow them to survive in harsh desert climates without water for days at a time.

And then we waste water as if there is NO tomorrow!
